Available from Today - Microsoft Copilot

Rolling out today (26th September 2023 - Today) will be the free update to Windows 11, release 22H2 and with it the new “Windows Copilot”.

Windows Copilot released today

What exactly is Windows Copilot

Windows Copilot is integrated into Windows 11 operating system and it’s Microsoft’s answer to implement Artificial Intelligence (AI) into the base operating system of a PC.

Copilot allows you to ask what you want in natural language and the technology is smart enough to answer, create what you want to take an action.

Unfortunately, this new feature comes as we say goodbye to Cortana.

RIP Cortana, you’ve been a good friend.

Said to come with over 150 new features, the next Windows 11 update will bring the power of Copilot and new AI powered experiences to apps like Paint, Photos, the Snipping Tool, Clipchamp, Notepad, Narrator and more.

What New Features are Coming?

So tell me about the good stuff. What is new?

  • Classic Paint will now have layers like Photoshop. You will be able to remove a background from an image and use Cocreator (Generative AI) to generate a new custom background on a layer behind your main image.
  • Photos has also been enhanced with AI including new features like Background Blur to effortlessly achieve stylish background blur effects by making the subject of your photo stand out quickly and easily. Search has been improved to allow you to find photos based on the location they were taken.
  • Snipping Tool now allows you to extract specific text content, redaction of sensitive information from an image and sound capturing with audio and mic support.
  • File Explorer is getting an update with a revised address bar and search box and a new gallery feature for accessing your photo collection across all your feeds.
  • Notepad will start auto saving your sessions and allow you to pickup where you left off when you return. Tabs will be added for various content
  • Clipchamp will now offer scene suggestions, edits and narratives based on your images/videos so you can create videos for family and social media like a pro.
  • Windows Backup will make upgrading to a new PC a breeze by transitioning most files, apps and settings from one PC to another so everything is right where you left it, exactly how you like it.

What about Office 365?

As you have probably guessed, this is the tip of the iceberg. The basis behind most of this is Chat GPT and DALL.E 3. These advancements will also roll into Microsoft Edge and Bing Search engine.

There will be features like being able to summarise a large document or web page to create and overview in Word or an Email (as well as write new content).

Take existing documents and convert them into stunning presentations. Generate charts, perform calculations and analyse data in Excel without needing to create complex formulas. Summarise threads in Outlook and much more. Exciting times ahead. Click on the picture below for a quick demo video.
