Microsoft PowerToys for Windows 10/11

Continuing with our series of “making life easier” I thought I would make mention of Microsoft Power Toys.

Microsoft PowerYoys

Microsoft PowerToys? Ok, so what exactly is this?

Power Toys are a series of Power User tools that anyone can access. It’s essentially a suite of utilities designed to maximize performance built by Microsoft developers, engineers and programmers. They have now been shared with the community as open source.

Said to come with over 150 new features, the next Windows 10/11 update will bring the power of Copilot and new AI powered experiences to apps like Paint, Photos, the Snipping Tool, Clipchamp, Notepad, Narrator and more.

Why do I need this?

Microsoft Powertoys brings a variety of cool features to your Windows 10 or 11 experience across all of your apps. They are designed for the more advanced users. Here are a few of our favourites.

Our Favourite PowerToys Features

Alwyas on Top Always on Top – Ever needed to use a program (like say the calculator) but while flicking through screens it keeps getting lost? Win + Ctrl + T would make the selected program always stay on top
Colour Picker Color Picker – Ever wanted to know the exact colour of something you see on screen from a logo to a nice background colour. Color Picker is a system wide app that will give you the RGB, Hex, CMYK colour of anything touched with the eye dropper. Win + Shift + C to activate.
Image Resizer Image Resizer – Need to email 15 photos to someone quickly? Problem is the images are all 5 meg each. Not going to work ☹ With PowerToys, select the 15 images and right click to reduce all of them in seconds. Fantastic!
Mouse Utilities Mouse Utilities – Ever can’t find your mouse pointer on your laptop or multiple screen display. Double tap the Control Key to instantly find it with a spot light.
Paste as Plain Text Paste as Plain Text – Often in various apps you will copy something, then do a right click, paste, paste options, paste text only or similar. You can now bypass all these steps with hotkey Win + Ctrl + Alt + V

Is there more to learn?

This is just opening the door to helping you explore some new ideas, features and concepts. Perhaps think of this as the start of your journey rather than the end. Just a taste…

You can download Microsoft Powertoys by visiting the Windows Store and typing in “PowerToys”
